Chloe Bennet Teases Daisy's Possible New Love Interest on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Could it be Deke? It's totally Deke, right?

To say Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) has been unlucky in love on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.is to seriously understate the catastrophe that has been the girl's love life the past five seasons. Her first love, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), turned out to be a Hydra agent, then her boyfriend Luke (Luke Mitchell) floated off into space and died to save the world from her ex-boyfriend who'd turned into an ancient, evil octopus -- who kind of also felt a little bit like a love interest? It's been a mess, y'all.

That all might change in Season 6 though, according to Chloe Bennet. A small group of reporters talked to the cast about this very topic on a recent visit to the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set, where they're already busy filming Season 7, and they had promising things to say.

"I think she's getting there, I think that's what it is," Bennet said of Daisy's readiness for a new foray into romance. "At the end of Season 3, [there was] so much loss, she was like, 'I can't be around anybody. I'll hurt everybody. I'm going to leave.' You really see her mature through her reactions to trauma throughout the whole series. This season, I wanted to make sure that the love interest wasn't in reaction to anything... I think Season 6, we're getting into that place, but I think as the Captain of the FitzSimmons ship, I think she's focused on them."

It's true that as far as Daisy's past goes, there's always been some deep emotional trauma affecting her choices and her judgment. One would assume the loss of Coulson (Clark Gregg) would retrigger her go-to defense mechanism of going it alone, but in the year that's passed since his death, she's actually done the opposite and banded together with the small rescue team on a mission to find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). Bennet isn't lying when she said Daisy will be the so-called captain of that ship this year.

However, the fact that Daisy is apparently ready to consider romance again is interesting enough to make us consider who might catch her eye this year. The most obvious answer is, of course, Deke (Jeff Ward), who made his interest in Daisy pretty clear last season.

"We all know what Deke wants," Bennet continued. "We know Deke wants it."

Ward hinted that despite Daisy being locked in space with her dedicated rescue squad, she and Deke would be sharing quite a bit of time together this season. As to whether those scenes will take on a romantic nature? That's anyone's guess.

"They will definitely spend a bunch more time together, and their relationship continues to grow and evolve," Ward said. "I hope something happens. Wouldn't that be nice?"

It sure would be nice to see these two turn their chemistry into something substantial, but we're not sure FitzSimmons would agree, since Deke is actually their future grandson. It might be a little weird for everyone involved, but we guess weird is always relative on this show!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 premieres Friday, May 10 at 8/7c on ABC.
