After a pair of tone-establishing teasers, the first trailer for Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events is finally here.

The trailer for the series based on the young adult novels by author Daniel Handler's alter ego Lemony Snicket gives viewers their first looks at cast members including Joan Cusack, Alfre Woodard and Catherine O'Hara. It also shows some of the hilariously unconvincing disguises that Neil Patrick Harris' Count Olaf will be using to try to bamboozle people into letting him secure the Baudelaire orphans' fortune for himself.

It's a very funny trailer, and the special effects and production design look great.

A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the misadventures of the Baudelaire siblings as they try evade their wicked new guardian Olaf's attempts to steal their inheritance. The books were previously adapted into movie in 2004 starring Jim Carrey.

A Series of Unfortunate Events premieres Friday, Jan. 13 on Netflix.
