Neil Patrick Harris Is Hideous in This A Series of Unfortunate Events First Look

Meet your new Count Olaf

Liam Mathews

Things are going to get very morbid on Netflix this January.

The streaming service released the first footage of its series reboot of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events on Thursday, giving strong-stomached viewers their first glimpse of Neil Patrick Harris' hideous visage as the villainous Count Olaf.

The clip is well-structured, with all the characters discussing how bad the orphaned Baudelaire siblings' new guardian Count Olaf is, before he finally reveals himself at the end and tells them, "You haven't the faintest idea."

A Series of Unfortunate Events
is based on the best-selling series of young adult novels by Daniel Handler as the character Lemony Snicket. It tells the story of the Baudelaires as they try to protect their inheritance from being stolen by their wicked uncle. It was previously made into a movie in 2004 starring Jim Carrey as Count Olaf.

Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes co-star Violet and Klaus Baudelaire, respectively, with Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket and Joan Cusack as Count Olaf's kindly neighbor Justice Strauss.

A Series of Unfortunate Events premieres Friday, Jan. 13 on Netflix.
