Set in a remote, windswept rural landscape in southern France rather than the English moors, the film tells the tragic story of Heathcliff (here called Roch) and Catherine (Catherine or "Cathie"), whose intense, destructive love shapes their lives and those around them. Roch is a mysterious orphan taken in by a farming family. He forms a deep, almost primal bond with Cathie, but their relationship is marked by emotional volatility and social tension. As they grow older, Cathie chooses to marry another man of higher social standing, betraying her connection with Roch. Consumed by pain and resentment, Roch leaves and later returns, determined to take revenge on those who wronged him. His actions set off a chain of suffering that extends into the next generation, as love turns into obsession and vengeance.
