Established stage actress Emily Fitzroy easily steals the show from the stars of this drama, Pauline Starke and Percy Marmont, neither of whom had a terribly compelling presence. Gabrielle Gautier (Starke) falls in love with artist Stannard Dole (Marmont), who is in Paris on vacation. She poses for a statue he is making, but he leaves before completing it. When Gabrielle sees him again in New York, she's surprised to find there is a Mrs. Dole (Fitzroy). Gabrielle becomes seriously ill, and Dole recommends her to a doctor friend, Ethan Bristol (Edward Langford). She and Bristol ultimately marry. Dole, meanwhile, dies, swearing at the last that Gabrielle was his inspiration. This does not please Mrs. Dole in the least and she becomes determined to ruin Gabrielle's happy marriage. She is almost successful, and the couple separate for a while, but in the end, Gabrielle has a child and this reunites her with Bristol.
