Young heir Danny Churchill (Harve Presnell) tries to help Ginger (Connie Francis), an attractive postal worker in rural Nevada, save her father's ranch from closing due to being heavily in debt with some Reno gangster-types for her father's compulsive gambling. Evading a controversy at his Eastern college, Danny is advised to go West. On the drive out to his father's alma mater Cody College in Nevada, he meets and tries to rescue Ginger who, unknown to him, is a Pony Express rider. He offers to drive her to Reno. Louis Armstrong is performing in a club in Reno. Ginger finds her gambling addict father in that club. Danny offers to lend her father enough to pay off his debt, but they refuse to accept it. Her father is given one week to pay off his debt. Ginger's plan is to see her father's cattle ranch to pay off their debt. He suggests turning the ranch into a dude ranch as a destination resort for divorcees. He will draw up the building plan and local college students can provide the construction and engineering expertise. With his college friends' help, Danny turns Ginger's father's ranch into a destination for impending divorcees. Herman (Peter Noone) and his band Herman's Hermits entertain them during breaks in construction. While Danny courts Ginger, but tries to keep his past reputation a secret as his former girlfriend Tess (Sue Ane Langdon), a spiteful gold-digger, relentlessly searches for him, pursuing him for breach-of-promise, and his wealth. Danny proposes to Ginger. Right after the resort opens, they collect enough money to pay off her father's gambling debt. As they walk in to the casino, Danny recognizes Tess singing on stage. Later, Ginger catches him in her dressing room as Tess kisses him. She breaks up with him. Tess is then seen at the college with the scheming casino owners. As Danny drives away, Tess and her friends chase him. He drives to the resort to talk to her. When the whole group finally catch up, Danny finds out the casino owners hired Tess to a five-year singing contract. And the casino men want to hire Danny to draw architect plans for three more resorts along the same line, but with casinos on the back. Danny, now free to woo and marry Ginger, he turns to her and asks her permission. She is glad reunite with him with no rival in sight.
