What's-His-Name? was the fourth of the six films directed in 1914 by Cecil B. DeMille. The scene is a small upstate New York town, where soda-fountain proprietor Harvey (Max Figman) is the community's most popular fellow. He marries the equally popular Nellie (Lolita Figman), and for several years the union is a happy one. But when Nellie achieves success as a musical comedy actress, poor Harvey finds himself odd man out (he's the "what's-his-name" of the title). Tired of living in his wife's shadow, Harvey returns to his hometown with his little daughter in tow, while Nellie, briefly infatuated with a millionaire, begins divorce proceedings. The couple is brought to their senses and simultaneously brought back together when their daughter falls dangerously ill. Incidentally, the kid playing the daughter is none other than Cecilia DeMille, the real-life offspring of you-know-who. What's-His-Name? was based on a novel by George Barr McCutcheon.
