Valley of Hell was one of two Francis McDonald westerns, filmed back-to-back by director Clifford Smith (the other was The Desert's Toll). In this one, hero McDonald rescues heroine Edna Murphy from a gang of bandits. It should be noted that, as the sister of ne'er-do-well William Steele, Murphy is hardly out of the woods after being saved by McDonald. Meanwhile, the hero does his best to rid his town of a crooked gambler who holds Murphy's brother in thrall. Perennial Laurel and Hardy foil Anita Garvin shows up as a slinky dance-hall gal.
