In consoling her daughter after a recent breakup, Julie tells her an elaborate tale about herself during her senior year in high school back in the '80s, complete with imaginary musical numbers. Julie recounts how she ditches her jock boyfriend and followed her heart not only to take a chance on an adventure with a punk rocker Randy but to pursue her dream of studying fashion arts in New York City.
