Lively, charming Steve Fisher (21) drops out of college after a drinking problem. Back home at his parents house, he falls in love with Kelly Garner, who joins the hardware store he's assistant manager in. Only his mother's well-meant bossy objections drive him back into Kelly's arms - she's a bad influence and he starts drinking again. They go on a lake holiday where things turn sour.
