Bored blonde housewives, Mona, Brooke, and Karen have come up with interesting ways to ward off the winter doldrums while their husbands work late at the office. Mona loves the man she married but the guy isn't around much and is too tired after work to perform his husband duties when he is. Brooke has a tidy little arrangement with her hubby, Pete: they've been longtime members of a secret suburban swingers club called 'The Exchange' and strongly believe that spouse swapping is the key to a happy marriage. Karen finds the attention she so desperately craves from Dick, a local college boy, who is only too willing to indulge her, until he has to go back to school and his steady girlfriend, Kathy. When Brooke hears of Mona's lack of loving, she sets her up with an anonymous 'liaison,' which backfires and ends up leaving Mona feeling guilty and more unhappy than before. Enter Brooke with the solution to her friends' marital problems: she recruits the couples into The Exchange. Of course, it takes some persuading to get Mona's husband, Les, on board, but he's coerced into going along with the arrangement for Mona's sake. Eventually, everybody switches and swaps, and all seems hunky-dory for a few days, until Karen finds herself falling in love with Les while Karen's husband Wayne only wants to have sex with Mona. Mona isn't interested in Wayne, but becomes concerned about Les and Karen's relationship. Veteran swingers Penny and her husband show up one night and they both want their turn with Mona and Les. Brooke is tired of Penny bossing her around and plans to put a stop to it. After spying on and then raping Karen, college stud Dick threatens to expose The Exchange unless he and his girlfriend Kathy (whose uncle runs a scandal newspaper) can get into the action. Pretending to be married, the youngsters meet with Brooke and Pete for an initiation.
