The "Rubber Soul" in question refers not to the famous December 1965 Beatles album (as might be expected), but to a Slavic album that pays homage to the original recording. In this documentary, filmmaker Dinko Tucakovic witnesses a group of gifted musicians entering a recording studio in the early 1990s, with Serbia on the verge of unbridled civil war. In response, several young men vow to rework the original Rubber Soul songs and thus lift the spirits of the surrounding populace. Tucakovic at once uses the film literally - to observe musicians in mid-session - and sociologically, as a commentary on the state of Serbia at a very specific and telling point in history.
