In a dystopian alternative reality ruled by the authoritarian "Congress of the Academies," every citizen is forced to undergo an extra academic year followed by a rigid career test that dictates their entire future livelihood. Defying this oppressive system, a rebellious young woman named Liana abruptly walks out of her school, forfeiting her right to work and earn money. Soon after, she crosses paths with Ms. Plotnik, a woman whose family restaurant was destroyed by the regime. Bound by their shared status as societal outcasts, the two women team up with Bob—another school dropout—to form "The Rabble," a small, secret organization aimed at finding cracks in the Academy's system and resisting the status quo. Guided by a mysterious, fourth-wall-breaking Author, their fledgling rebellion is quickly put to the test when they attempt to contact a potentially sympathetic Academy official. However, as paranoia sets in and the boundaries of their augmented reality begin to warp, The Rabble must navigate deception, hidden agendas, and an enigmatic wizard named Geb, leading Liana and Ms. Plotnik to question the true price of belief and resistance.
