Now virtually forgotten, Leo Maloney was once one of the most popular -- and ambitious -- cowboy stars in Hollywood. Maloney served as both star and director of what was reportedly one of his best vehicles, The Man From Hardpan. The film gets off to a hectic start when hero Robert Alan (Leo Maloney), en route to claim an inheritance, has his identification papers and valuables stolen by outlaw Larry Lackey (Paul Hurst). The villain assumes Robert's identity, going so far as to have the luckless heir arrested and put in jail. In due course, Robert escapes, proves he is who he says he is, and gives Lackey a sound thrashing.
