A full-length film based on a previously televised play known as "The Lady and the Lawyer". Allen Bardeman is a prominent lawyer who covertly collects money from the numbers racket for a crime syndicate. His legal secretary Angela Walsh is also his long-term mistress and "kept woman". Due to his lavish lifestyle and mismanagement of his funds, Allen is deeply in debt. Angela urges him to solve his money problems by staging a robbery of the syndicate's money, She plans to double-cross her employer, planning to run away with the money and her secret ally Ed Rackin. Both Allen and Angela intended for their plans to cause no casualties. The staged robbery does not go as planned, resulting in the death of a corrupt political administrator. An entire homicide squad is assigned to investigate the case, and New York City's mayor Harold Emshaw applies political pressure to have the proper investigators placed in key positions in the police force. Allen starts worrying that his scheme will have unintended consequences for himself and the entire city.
