The Glass Sphinx
American Professor Karl Nichols is leading an Egyptian expedition not sanctioned by the Egyptian authorities in they not believing in his theory. Records show a two hundred year gap in ancient rulers of Egypt of three thousand years ago, the rumors being that Apophis, the pharaoh at the time, lived and ruled for those two hundred years and had an elixir of life all centered literally and figuratively on a glass sphinx. Karl is determined to discover Apophis' tomb to locate the sphinx and thus prove his theory, he believing he knowing the general location which will thus require an excavation team. Key members of his administrative team include: his faithful assistant Alex, who will be joining him later; Karl's beautiful niece Jenny Nichols, Alex whose delay is to pick her up at Cairo Airport, she bringing important documents and a key piece of equipment for the actual dig; and a second beautiful woman, Paulette, who Alex hired as Karl's secretary, she a former showgirl who is trying to earn enough money to "go home". A late addition to the team is Ray McCall, a journalist looking for a good story and who always seemed to be at the right place at the right time when Alex was retrieving Jenny. Things go wrong right from the start, including a failed assassination attempt on Karl and someone stealing the documents and equipment that Jenny brought. All these incidents cannot be coincidence and point either to attempts of sabotage of the expedition for whatever reason and/or someone trying to locate the tomb him or herself. Karl does not realize that the person/people working against him is/are closer than he imagines.
