Described by its parent studio Biograph as a "western comedy," The Dancing Girl of Butte was filmed in the wide open spaces of Edgewater, New Jersey. Florence Barker plays the title character, a dancer in a cheap Montana honky-tonk. An ethereal young artist Owen Moore falls in love with the girl, unaware of her tawdry lifestyle. Fortunately, when he does find out what she does for a living, it matters not, and a happy ending ensues. Also appearing in this D.W. Griffith-directed 984-foot subject was future "King of Comedy" Mack Sennett.
