The Beautiful Risk
A Canadian based in New York City, William Murphy was once a successful and well-respected artist whose work is well known, such as in advertising campaigns, even if his name may not be household. His life, both professional and personal, began to spiral downward out of control several years ago, he using self-harm, illicit drugs and indiscriminate sex, largely through professional services such as prostitutes, as means to cope, leading to his wife divorcing him which also resulted in she retaining custody of their only offspring who he now never sees and he being in a difficult financial situation he thus needing work now more than ever. On a business trip to Montréal which doesn't go the way he wants, he, as a result, embarks on even riskier behavior. In the process, he meets a young woman named Paulette, an aspiring nurse, who ends up being his guardian angel. Beyond she initially saving him from the precarious situation in which he got himself, she herself is a broken soul. Their encounter is one of mutual need for human connection. That connection has the potential to get them back to a path to a happier, more fulfilled life, or one of self-destruction in each enabling the other's thoughts and behavior.
