In the days when a girl's reputation really did matter, this film still seemed musty. Helen Sanderson (Dolores Cassinelli) is a country girl who falls in love with, and poses for, an artist who is passing through town. The painting makes him his fortune, and he forgets all about her. Because of all the talk surrounding her relations with the artist, she heads for the city. But times are tough for Helen, and she can't find any work. She winds up being arrested on a morals charge and is sent to a girl's reformatory, even though she is innocent. Finally, an author comes to her aid by starring her in one of his plays. The painter, completely unaware of the part he had to play in Helen's downfall, comes back into her life, and they are reunited. This was one of the last American films directed by pioneer Alice Guy (she was billed here as Madame Alice Blache). Within a couple of years, Guy would divorce her husband Herbert Blache (also a director) and return to France.
