The title of this Hungarian costume drama translates as The Poor Rich. Theodore Uray plays Fatia Negra, an infamous 19th-century highwayman. By day a foppish aristocrat, Negra is by night a charming but ruthless killer, owing allegiance to no one but himself. His achille's heel is his love for his beautiful wife Henriette (Zita Szeleczky). Despite his own wanton philandering, Negra is consumed with rage when Henriette falls for another man. Unable to stand the shock to his system, the "hero" solves his dilemma by killing himself. Istvan Ezterhas' screenplay was based, rather too faithfully, on a lengthy novel by Maurice Jokai.
