Pera Mitic sells carnations on the streets of Belgrade while his abusive mother pressures him to bring home the proceeds. After women reject his flowers, he begins strangling them, drawing Inspector Ognjen Strahinjic into a widening investigation. Young musician Spiridon Kopicl becomes fascinated by the murders and creates a song about the strangler, bringing him into contact with radio presenter Sofija Mackic. As police operations fail and Pera's violence escalates, Spiridon's connection to the killer becomes increasingly difficult to separate from his public success.
