Stigmata

Frankie Paige, an atheist hairdresser in Pittsburgh, begins suffering unexplained wounds after receiving a rosary connected to a mysterious death in Brazil. Father Andrew Kiernan, a Jesuit investigator of reported miracles, is sent to determine whether her condition has a supernatural explanation. As Frankie experiences increasingly disturbing manifestations, strange writing, and an unfamiliar language, Andrew traces the phenomena toward a suppressed ancient gospel. The investigation draws him into a confrontation between institutional faith and a radically different understanding of spiritual truth, while Frankie becomes the unwilling center of a mystery that reaches far beyond her own suffering.
