While they are in the airport cafeteria, waiting to board their flight to Buenos Aires, Gérard tells Hélène that he is leaving her, that he no longer loves her, that he is leaving alone, and returns her luggage. Hélène, in shock, doesn't understand. Distraught, she tries to reason with him. And ultimately, as he flees, as she fails to catch him, she remains at Orly Airport, distraught, hanging on this impulsive decision that has just shattered five years of their life together. Hélène will never leave the airport again, where one can indeed live an entire life. Soon she is prostituting herself with travelers in transit, a prostitution without degradation, as if waiting for something else, for the day when she will be someone else. Having become a fixture of Orly, involved with a bartender, she thus begins her strange life of a sleepwalker, and ultimately what might seem like a journey of initiation.
