Sidonie, a successful French author, travels to Japan at the invitation of her publisher, Kenzo, to promote the reissue of her first book. She hasn't traveled in a long time and feels like a stranger in the country. She hasn't written since her husband Antoine died in an accident a few years ago and clings to her grief. A quiet friendship develops between Kenzo and Sidonie, for he, too, carries a wounded and lonely soul within him. In Japan, Sidonie begins to see her late husband. "It's perfectly normal," Kenzo assures her; Japan is the land of spirits, he explains, where everyone lives alongside their deceased loved ones. Antoine now appears to her more frequently, and the two have heart-to-heart conversations. He wants her to finally let him go. On her very quiet journey through Japan, Sidonie slowly heals and finally manages to let Antoine go. She wants to move on with her life and eventually rediscovers herself and her voice as a writer. A new love has blossomed between her and Kenzo.
