Gladys Brockwell was known for her vamp roles, so this picture, in which she plays a long-suffering mother of the old West, is quite a departure for her. The Sage Hen (Brockwell) lives with her three-year-old son (Richard Headrick) on the outskirts of Silver Creek. Gossip about the woman's past causes her to be driven away. When she is attacked by Indians, she sends her child back to Silver Creek on a horse lent to her by a kindly townswoman. Years pass, and the Sage Hen takes on the name Jane Croft. She becomes the guardian of pretty Stella Sanson (Lillian Rich). They both find themselves in danger when a gambler threatens to reveal Jane's past unless he can have Stella. They are saved from the gambler by a cavalry lieutenant (Wallace MacDonald), who turns out to be Jane's son, now grown. Mother and son are happily reunited.
