In early 1926, Russian-born Hollywood producer Bud Barsky brought a cowboy actor with a familiar-sounding name, a couple of character men, a pretty girl who could ride, a veteran comic, a director who doubled as a villain and a skeletal crew to Three Rivers in Sequoia National Park, where they filmed eight little Western thrillers. The fifth in the series to be released, Range Raiders suffered from one of the decade's silliest plots: Al Hoxie is falsely accused of stealing sardines (!) from Ione Reed's general store and must prove to Sheriff Cliff Lyons that the real thief is grimy old Alfred Hewston. Al Hoxie was trapped in the cheapest Westerns possible for his entire career but was actually considered a better actor than his more famous brother Jack.
