MTV Movie Award Nominees Number 300

G-e-r-a-r-d B-u-t-l-e-r's 300 leads the pack at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, netting a total of five nods, including best film and performance (Mr. Butler). Pirates of the Caribbean 2 followed with four noms.The Best Kiss contest pits The Holiday's Diaz-Law against Invincible's Wahlberg-Banks and Ricky Bobby's Ferrell-Cohen, while the baddie category finds 300's Rodrigo "Paulo, we hardly knew ye" Santoro going toe-to-toe with Tobin Bell (Saw III), Jack Nicholson (The Departed), Bill Nighy (POTC2) and Meryl Streep (Devil Wears Prada). The awards air June 3 on... MTV.

The Year in Cinema: Financial Boom or Bust?

How did 2006's film fare fare compared to the year before? Thanks in part to Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest ( which broke too many records to regurgitate here) and despite a somewhat lackluster holiday season, the final box-office tally is headed toward $9.42 billion, marking an increase of about five percent versus 2005. Before you crow, "Well, weren't ticket prices up at least five percent?" the Hollywood Reporter points out that the number of actual tickets sold — 1.44 billion — was up nearly three percent.Joining POTC 2 ($423.3 million) in this year's elite $200 mil-plus club were Cars ($244.1 mil), X-Men: The Last Stand ($234.4 mil), The Da Vinci Code ($217.5 mil) and Superman Returns ($200.1 mil).

Short Cuts: Pirates, 90210 and More!

SOAPnet has added two more hours of Beverly Hills 90210 to its schedule, airing Sundays from 5 to 7 pm/ET.... Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) and Elijah Wood will announce the nominees for this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards next Thursday, Jan. 4, at 3:05 pm/ET, on E! and TNT.... Starting today, Fox Sports is digitally distributing college-football bowl games and preview shows, via FoxSports.com, iTunes and other outlets. Additionally, the New Year's Day Cotton Bowl Classic will be streamed, a first for a major bowl game.... Pirates of the Caribbean 2 reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the DVD sales chart last week, unseating Ricky Bobby, while The Devil Wears Prada remained the top rental.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest topped the video sales and rental charts last week, moving 10.5 million units (the biggest debut of any release this year) and generating $12.9 million in rentals.... Reminder: Star Trek memorabilia is being sold to the public starting today at 3 pm/ET, via eBay.com and ItsAWrapHollywood.com.... Seinfeld: The E! True Hollywood Story premieres Dec. 23, at 6 pm. You Saw It Coming: Jungle Cruise, the Movie

Pillaging an idea that worked (and then some) with Pirates of the Caribbean, Walt Disney Pictures is fast-tracking a big-screen adaptation of Disneyland's 51-year-old Jungle Cruise attraction, in which parkgoers encounter wild creatures during a riverboat excursion. No less than Smallville cocreators Al Gough and Miles Millar are in talks to pen the script. Teacups is next, you read it here first.
