My Winter Journey
The film follows Vincent Dieutre, a forty-year-old filmmaker, as he travels through snow-covered Germany with his fifteen-year-old godson, Itvan, on their way to Berlin. Along the journey, Dieutre introduces Itvan to German cities, landscapes, history, poetry, and music, while revisiting places and former lovers that have shaped his own past. Inspired by Schubert's Winterreise, the film unfolds as both a physical journey and an intimate exploration of memory, desire, solitude, and a life marked by homosexual love and experience. Their journey becomes, at once, a quiet coming-of-age for Itvan and a personal reckoning for Dieutre, as he confronts his past and reflects on the possibility of moving forward.
