Ana Silva (Nazimova) loved her son Tony (Jack Pickford) with all a mother's love. She is also loved by Ellery Parker (Hobart Bosworth), the sheriff, and Felipe Vargas (Ian Keith), a sailor. Betty Smith (Constance Bennett), a flapper from New York and her rich mother come to spend the summer in the little fishing town. Betty becomes enamored of Tony who also becomes fascinated with her, neglecting Rosa Pina (Mary Akin), his childhood sweetheart, thereby almost breaking her heart. In order to run off with Betty to New York, he robs Mrs. Smith of a diamond necklace. His mother discovers this, and when he attempts to run away in spite of all, she strikes him with a shovel, knocking him unconscious. She arranges with a friend of hers, Capt. Barny (Charles Murray) to spirit the boy away on the latter's ship in order to save him from arrest at the hands of Sheriff Parker, who has discovered his misdeed. While Tony sails away with Rosa on the boat, Ana giver her heart to Felipe Vargas.
