A man tries to come to terms with the many ideals that have failed him in this visually striking drama from filmmaker Miguel Coyula. Sergio (Ron Blair) was born and raised in Cuba, and from the time he was old enough to have his own ideas about politics he was passionate advocate of the principles of socialism and his nation's attempts to bring the Marxist ideal to life. However, while Sergio hasn't lost faith in socialism as a theory, he became disillusioned with the reality of the Cuban government, and he fled the country. Now settled in New York City, Sergio teaches a college course on Cuban politics and how the nation went wrong; in the meantime, he's become obsessed with his own failings and tries to blot out his ennui though promiscuity. Sergio also creates collages that reflect his troubled relationship with the personal and the political as well as the fragmented nature of his life, while he also wrestles with these ideas through the written word. Memorias del Desarollo (aka Memories of Overdevelopment) was an official selection at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
