When her communist husband Robert is sent to a concentration camp during the World War II German occupation of France, young writer Marguerite Duras begins a cat-and-mouse relationship with the Gestapo who arrested Robert in hopes of gaining information for the Resistance and locating her husband. While grieving her imprisoned husband, she also finds herself falling for another fellow Resistance member.
