Meeting at Midnight Reviews

Charlie Chan (Toler) and his daughter (Chan) try to solve a series of murders for which a phony spiritualist is the prime suspect. Chan becomes involved in the case via his loyal chauffeur (Moreland), who takes a job as a butler in the spiritualist's creepy mansion (the same mansion seen in Bela Lugosi's THE INVISIBLE GHOST). Lots of pointless talk, some annoying racial humor featuring Moreland, and a pretty silly murder weapon make this a weak entry in the long-running series. The only Charlie Chan title in the public domain, it has been released on videocassette by several different companies as either MEETING AT MIDNIGHT or CHARLIE CHAN IN BLACK MAGIC.
