Produced by Thomas H. Ince, Love Letters starred Dorothy Dalton as Eileen Rodney, the pretty ward of wealthy John Harland (Thurston Hall). Much to Harland's dismay, Eileen is attracted to Raymond Moreland (William Conklin), an incorrigible cynic who poses as a teacher of Eastern Mysticism. Moreland invites Eileen to accompany him to India; she accepts, assuming wrongly that he intends to marry her once they've arrived at their destination. Upon realizing that Moreland's intentions are far from honorable, she marries her guardian Harland on the rebound. This leaves Harland's business associate Robert Maxwell (Hayward Mack), who has long carried a torch for Eileen, out in the cold. Later on, Eileen's reputation is imperiled when Moreland comes back into her life, threatening to publish the love letters which passed between them unless she pays him off. Inevitably, Moreland turns up murdered, and Eileen's husband Harland, the district attorney, is appointed to prosecute the case. All evidence points to the likelihood that a woman committed the crime, and Harland acts aggressively upon this assumption, little realizing that he may be putting a noose around his own wife's neck. An 11th-hour act of courage by faithful Bob Maxwell saves Eileen's marriage -- and her life.
