This hard-edged prison drama is set in Yugoslavia in the 1980s, shortly before the nation was dissolved following the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, and uses life behind bars as a metaphor for the abuses of Tito's rule. A quiet accountant (Milan Plestina) is convicted of a crime and sentenced to spend 12 years in a high-security prison. He soon discovers that the guards are as much a threat to his safety as the other inmates, witnessing brutal violence, torture, sexual assault, and cold-blooded murder on a daily basis. Je Li Jiasno, Prijatelju? was the first feature written and directed by Dejan Acimovic, who also appears in a supporting role as one of the bloodthirsty guards.
