Two couples want to move on to better lives but can't leave behind the reputations of their homelands in this drama from Serbian filmmaker Goran Paskaljevic. In Albania, Maylinda (Mirela Naska) was engaged to Iler, but he attempted to flee to Italy on a rubber raft and has not been heard from since. Maylinda now lives with Iler's family; his mother Veno (Yllka Mujo) believes he's alive and well in Italy, while father Rok (Bujar Lako) and brother Nik (Jozef Shiroka) no longer hold out hope. Maylinda and Nik have quietly fallen in love with one another, and during a trip to a family wedding, Nik reveals he's obtained visas so he and Maylinda can travel to Italy and be married. However, when they arrive at Italian customs, officials refuse to admit them; two Italians were murdered in Kosovo, and Nik is considered a possible suspect. Meanwhile, Marko (Nebojsa Milovanovic) is a classical musician who has grown tired of the violence and political chaos in his native Serbia. Marko and his wife Vera (Jelena Trkulja) attend a family wedding that turns into a drunken brawl, and Marko decides its high time they moved on. Marko receives an invitation to audition for the Vienna Philharmonic, but when their train arrives in Austria, they're told that an incident in Serbia will prevent him from entering the country. Honeymoons received its world premiere at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival.
