Baptiste, a passionate but troubled theatre director, runs a company devoted to gruesome, extravagant performances in an old converted mill. His obsession with horror and spectacle gradually drives a wedge between him and his wife, Sarah, who turns to Charlie, a shopkeeper with a taste for practical jokes and comic mischief. Behind the stage curtains, the actors' own lives become increasingly tangled with the violent fantasies they perform. Desire, jealousy, frustration, and loneliness blur the line between theatre and reality, until Sarah realizes that the darkest drama is not being played on stage, but in their own lives.
