Frenchie Reviews

For some reason Universal decided to rework the Marlene Dietrich-Jimmy Stewart oater classic DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (1939) and came up with this lame imitation starring Winters in the Dietrich role and McCrea filling in for Stewart. The result is a flat western that sees Winters as a New Orleans gambling house madame returning to her home town of Bottleneck to avenge the murder of her father. McCrea is the town sheriff she falls for--without abandoning her plot for vengeance. She eventually discovers that respected banker Emery and Kelly are the real killers. There is even a knockdown, drag-out fight between Winters and Windsor (the banker's wife) that is ripped-off from the fight between Dietrich and Una Merkel in DESTRY RIDES AGAIN. Winters is just plain sloppy in her role.
