Jim Finney (Robert Kilcullen) is a defensive lineman who retires after a 13-year career with the Chicago Bears. He turns down a job coaching the team to become an unsuccessful painter. The inept artist finds his personal life taking a downward turn while his wife Joyce (Joan Sundstrom) is getting notice as a singer with a promising future. His mood grows darker when he is forced to take a job as a bartender before he throws his football paintings into the river. This is the first feature presentation for Bill Hare, who started out his career making television commercials. The film blends black-and-white photography with color.
