Perucho (Raul Vasquez), his sister Mariana (Gisvel Ascanio), and her husband Brigido (Karl Hofman), have all moved from the countryside to a slum on the outskirts of Caracas. One way or another, they hope to improve their lives. Mariana discovers that she is able to drop into trances and in that state can predict the winner of horse races, but this is an awkward business, and nothing much comes of it. On the other hand, Perucho discovers that he is a talented boxer, and as he gains ground in the boxing ring, the family enjoys greater prosperity. However, when Perucho winds up killing one of his opponents in the ring, he is overcome with feelings of guilt and his disquiet will not allow him to remain in competition.
