This West German frivolity stars Dominique Horwitz as a loveably inept bank robber. When a heist doesn't go off as planned, the frantic Horwitz takes a couple of hostages. Unfortunately, the victims are obnoxious pimp Heinz Hoenig and his hooker-wife Suzanne von Borsody, whose ceaseless squabbling drives Horwitz to distraction. With bone-weary cop Siegfried Kurnen in hot (or at least warm) pursuit, Hoenig and his hostages head for the hills, with a few reversals and double-crosses along the way. Fifty-Fifty won the 1987 Ernst Lubitsch award for the Best German Comedy of the year (an admittedly sparse field).
