Where to Watch
Chosen by a dictator to record affairs of state, photographer Evgueni Khaldei made the most of a job he was not free to refuse. This man of Jewish heritage chronicled the major events in Stalin's repressive Soviet regime, including its persecution of Jews and Gypsies, artists and political dissidents. Khaldei's famous images of events, including the trial at Nuremberg and the fall of the Reichstag, remain compelling reminders of that era in the history of the Soviet Union. Khaldei's return to his native land is chronicled by director Wajnberg, as the photographer seeks to put history and his own works into perspective. The program features many of Khaldei's outstanding images.
