Escape from Galaxy 3 Reviews

Reviewed By: Jason Gibner

When Escape From Galaxy 3 begins with a glorious Technicolor star field and a bad guy named The King of the Night who wears a cardboard costume and a beard filled with glitter, one would assume that the film would be a cheese-covered blast. Borrowing almost all its special effects shots from the far superior Italian Star Wars rip-off Star Crash, Escape From Galaxy 3's first half-hour holds nothing but promise for lovers of sci-fi stupidity. Viewers are given a full meal of Italian space madness as they are treated to meaningless space-talk gibberish, a poofy-haired hero with a magic ring that shoots lasers, and a constantly throbbing disco soundtrack. All fun is abandoned as the film's heroes land their ship on a primitive planet where they learn about love and spend endless scenes practicing kissing and talking to a constant stream of meaningless characters. Director Ben Norman and screenwriter John Thomas appear to have more interest in scenes in which our intergalactic heroes watch sunsets and make love than in having them shoot crudely animated lasers at The King of the Night. Once the glitter-bearded villain discovers the heroes, some lame action kicks in again, but it is not nearly enough to save this crashed, burning, broken-down starship of a movie.
