Eritrea: A Portrait of the Eritrean People (1989) explores the hopes and anguish of the war and famine-plagued Eritrean people who have been resisting the Ethiopian occupation of their country for thirty years in Africa's longest war. The Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) secessionist movement fought for the creation of an independent Eritrean nation out of the northernmost province of Ethiopia.
