Don Juan Diplomatico is the Spanish-language version of the 1930 Universal film The Boudoir Diplomat. The original English-language film starred Lowell Sherman as Baron Valmi, a continental roue who sleeps his way to the uppermost rungs of the European diplomatic corps. The Spanish version stars Argentine actor Faust Rocha, who though not as polished as Sherman is convincing as the amoral bed-hopper who comes to grief when he makes the mistake of falling in love. The director of Don Juan Diplomatico is silent-film veteran George Melford, who also helmed Universal's Spanish adaptation of Dracula. Like Boudoir Diplomat, Don Juan Diplomatico was based on Command to Love, a play by Rudolph Lothar and Fritz Gottwald.
