In order to bring some fun and excitement into their monotonous retirement, six residents of a Berlin retirement home have founded a lottery betting pool: the aging bon vivant Conrad, the gay couple Otto and Jakob, the good-natured Rosi and the lovesick couple Karin and Günter. Week after week they all look forward to the drawing of the winning numbers - until one Saturday the improbable becomes reality: the unlikely group cracks the bulging jackpot of 30 million euros. The reactions of the newly minted multi-millionaires are very different: While the philanderer Conrad wants to party hard again and squander the money on champagne with beautiful women, the romantics Otto and Jakob use their share to fulfill their dream of owning their own sailing yacht. Meanwhile, Rosi doesn't really know what's happening to her - and is being exploited to the fullest by her son and his greedy wife. Karin, who loves to explore, is completely different: She wants to fulfill her lifelong dream and travel the whole world despite her age - even if it means risking her marriage to her bitter husband Günter, who has long since written off all joy in life. Meanwhile, the idealistic geriatric nurse Carmen tries to keep her charges' arrogance in check. Because the millions neither bring the youth back nor protect them from blows of fate. For better or worse, each of the lottery kings has to learn in their own way that although money allows for a lot of freedom, the key to happiness doesn't necessarily have to be made of gold.
