It is the 1960s, and a serial killer is beginning his murder spree with three women. Reporter Loretta McLaughlin wants to break the story, but the Boston Globe and the police order her to stop. Instead, she and fellow reporter Jean Cole continue to work it when a fourth victim is found, ultimately breaking through misogynism and coining the name "The Boston Strangler." Their subsequent investigation leads to twists and turns that much of the public is unaware of.
