A typical early John Ford Western, Action starred Hoot Gibson, J. Farrell MacDonald and the director's brother, Francis Ford, as three cowboys who saves pretty Molly Casey (Clara Horton) from losing her inherited mine to an unscrupulous saloon-owner (William Robert Daly). The three manage to get the valuable mine away from the usurper, working it themselves to send the girl to school in the East. But the saloon-owner frames young Sandy (Gibson) in a hold-up and Molly returns to find her benefactors in jail. Everything works out in the end, however, and Sandy and Molly can plan a future together. Former rodeo champion Hoot Gibson was quickly becoming Universal's ace cowboy star, assuming the position from the aging Harry Carey.
