Ken Russell, the avant-garde filmmaker behind Women in Love and The Boy Friend, has died. He was 84. Russell died Sunday following multiple strokes, his son Alex Verney-Elliott told The Associated Press. "My father died peacefully. He died with a smile on his face," he said.

Fresh from the CW:"International supermodel Paulina Porizkova has joined the CW's America's Next Top Model Cycle 10 as a new panel judge, where she will conduct regular weekly evaluations of Top Model participants. 'We are thrilled to have Paulina as a part of this cycles judging panel. The show and participants will benefit a great deal from her vast modeling knowledge and expertise,' says executive producer Ken Mok."Twiggy, who has been a part of America's Next Top Model since Cycle 5, is leaving due to scheduling conflicts. 'We wish her well in her endeavors,' says Mok, 'and hope to collaborate with her in future cycles of ANTM as well as other projects.'"

So the second Tyra emphasized how interesting the judges' decision was, it did seem kind of plausible that they wouldn't eliminate anyone. I've been looking forward to this...

I've been looking forward to this all summer, but hurry up and break some hearts, Tyra; I need to see what's in the hatch! It looks like ANTM got its budget back after last cycle's cramped, inner-city digs and cheap excursions. Now the squealing poseurs get a posh Beverly Hills mansion and a stretch SUV to call their own. There are going to be some good catfights this fall, and a couple of good sob stories, too. I will definitely love to hate Texas beauty queen Cassandra, who explains that she's not icy because she doesn't like sharing her feelings with people, she just doesn't have any feelings. Ashley "Pretty Gene" was too easy to loathe, so I'm glad she's gone. I hope Ebony stays longer than I think her first photo indicates, 'cause she's going to be fun to quote — "Don't get it twisted!"
