• Was inspired to get into show business by his uncle, who was a playwright
• Started out as a theater singer, and appeared in nearly 2500 performances of the off-Broadway musical Forever Plaid
• Made his television debut in Showtime's series Nurse Jackie, which his sister, Linda, cocreated
• Has had type 1 diabetes since age 10, which later caused his left eye to go blind
• Traits of his diabetes were incorporated into his Nurse Jackie character, Thor
• Appeared in the PSA "Picture This: Diabetes" to increase awareness and bring hope to those with the disease
