• Was fond of mimicry and imitated people around as a young child

• Appeared alongside Hollywood actor Ben Kingsley in the feature film Gandhi (1982)
• Lost his son Tanveer prematurely in 1994 after a miscreant flung a stone into the Pune-Mumbai train, killing him
• Announced an award called "Tanveer Sanman" in the memory of his late son Tanveer who expired in an accident
• Had fasted for three days in social activist Anna Hazare's 10-day hunger protest to fight corruption in India
